Been using the Five Ten Trailcross Clip-In for quite a while. Love how comfy they are and connect great with the pedals.
Thanks for posting the blog! I’ve been super curious to try some others. 🤙🏼
Hustle Bike Labs says
Thanks for the feedback, Chris! 🙌 We have the Trailcross in our crosshairs. 😏
Carlos Sánchez says
Love these pedals!! I’ve been having really good luck with the Etnies camber CL’s! Best pedals out there again!
Hustle Bike Labs says
Thanks, Carlos! We’re curious to see if anyone else has been riding these. 🧐
A Rod says
RC HELLION CLIP AND TRANSITION she’s are amazing on these pedals. Great shoe pedal interface and shoes last forever. I’ve ridden 510 hellcats and although they have a great interface they wear out super fast. Now go shred!
Steph F. says
This is perfect timing!! The ones I have been riding in changed their design so this list is perfect to start shopping for a new pair!
Now to find which ones come in women’s sizes for tiny feet 👟🧲
Hustle Bike Labs says
One of our other female ambassadors wears Endura MT500 Burner and likes them. Which shoes were you riding that changed their design?
Nate Graham says
Tried and true RC transitions are a great option and they have a tendency to go on sale here and there. Ive managed to pick up a couple sets half off with the right timing. More importantly though is you’re own personal foot anatomy. All the shoes mentioned have a solid connection but your connection in the shoe is just as important, else it can make it feel like you don’t have as solid a foundation or enough freedom while riding, which is what these pedals do such a good job of balancing! Would love to see a post with some takes on what foot each shoe fits best!
Hustle Bike Labs says
Solid feedback, Nate! For sure going to keep this in mind. 🙌
Derek Westbrook says
I’ve been riding the Bontrager SSR Multisport shoes for over two years now and they just feel so comfortable on and off the bike. Holding up great and hoping to get a few more years out of them.
Hustle Bike Labs says
Thanks for the feedback, Derek! Interesting. 🤔 Always good to be comfortable on and off the bike.
Kagen Luedemann says
I’ve really been digging the Fox Union’s lately, they have great support and really solid durability overall
Hustle Bike Labs says
We have had our eye on the Fox Unions. Were they easy to set up with the pedals? Did you end up keeping the pre-installed traction pin setup?
Dixon black says
I run the hellcat pros, I love the connection it gives you to the pedal being a fairly flat shoe. They are a super stiff shoe witch I love for ridding in steep terrain. The only downside is they do wear out quick.
Hustle Bike Labs says
Thanks, Dixon! That’s good feedback, knowing you rip the gnarly trails of BC. 🤘
Brandon Kelsey says
Both the Endura Mt500 Burner and the Shimano AM7’s work great!
Hustle Bike Labs says
Thanks for the feedback! We had someone else talking about the AM5s, but it looks like the AM7s might marry better with the pedals.
Aaron says
Hello! I currently am using Crank Brothers Mallet E Boa Mountain Bike Shoes but they seem to be a bit too concave and I’m not able to get a consistent grip. I just ordered the Hellcat and Hellcat Pros to see which ones I like best, but I’m wondering if you could indicate how many V1 and V2 Shims each of the shoes above should use. I think that would be a big help to better understand your recommended setup! Thanks!
Hustle Bike Labs says
2 V2 shims = approx. 1 V1 shim. For the Hellcats, we recommended 1 V1 shim or 2 V2 shims. We have not tested the Crank Brothers Mallets, so it is hard to say. But, from the looks of images, you might try 2-3 V2 shims. You want the REMplate to sit roughly 1mm below the sole. Also, the sole has some curve to it, so you might try removing the Shortie Pins closes to the axis. We go over that setup in the RC Tallac YouTube Vid (start at 2 min 30 sec) – https://youtu.be/EblXyOH8Aik?si=SUF_uK3HZEAV2elB&t=123
Keli Kaaekuahiwi says
My wife has been using the Crank Brothers Mallet E BOA Shoes and loves the combination with her Hustle pedals! She loves the platform and connection with the shoe and pedal and the REMplate has great contact. She has the long pins on the front and back of the pedal, with shorter pins in the middle. She rode that combo all over Texas doing Enduro style of riding, and now we live in Utah and she does everything from mellow trail rides to Deer Valley and the Wasatch Crest with over 6,000′ of descending.
Hustle Bike Labs says
Thanks for the feedback. 🙌 This is helpful and will greatly benefit others.
Rich says
So far I really like the locked in feel with no float that I get from the Five Ten Hellcat and Hellcat Pros. Hellcat Pros were more comfortable than non pros imo. Unfortunately both pairs only lasted a few weeks before the bottoms started to tear and fall off. Adidas does have a 6 month warranty but they denied my request even though the shoes were only 1 month old. So I definitely couldn’t recommend them. I’ve been repairing the shoe every couple of weeks with shoe goo to get more life out of them. Hopefully I can eventually find another brand that is as easy to set up as the Hellcat pros were. I would like to find another brand with the same locked in feel that are as easy to set up but last longer.
Simon G says
Ride Concepts Hellion’s for me. Been riding them for almost 2 years and the work great with Remtech Pedals🤙🏽.
Oceana Nelson says
The five ten hellcats have done well for the last year and a half and I ride mountain basically everyday. Love the crank brothers boas as well.
Kathleen R says
I’ve been riding my Hustles with Bontrager Averts for almost years and couldn’t be happier. The huge (wide and tall) toebox works for my hammertoe, and they work well with the Hustles in terms of grip and contact with the magnets.
Hustle Bike Labs says
Thanks for sharing, Kathleen. 🙌 We’ve had a couple of people mention liking the Bontrager Rally’s. We’ll have to check out the Averts.
Stephane Amberg says
Hello. Anyone tried Leatt 5.0 or 4.0 clipless shoes? Seems like they would be a good fit for these pedals.
John says
– Shimano GE MTB shoes have a very long / wide cleat box and has been the best for placement that I’ve found. Two shims and the steel plate is at rubber height.
– Five Ten’s and Specialized MTB/DH style cleat box worked but would have rather placed the plate farther to the rear. A bit of lift on the rear of the plate if you go back to far. Five Tens were a slight better fit but both held up and worked.
– Crank Brothers have an arch in the 2 bolt cleat box, works good for clipless NOT for a steel plate.
– Pearl Izumi did not have a good shaped / location of the cleat box to really work well. They seamed to have a thinner barrier on the shoe underside and I felt flex through the 2 bolt connection.
Hope this helps when picking a shoe.
Matt says
Any recommendations for a mid or high top MTB shoe that would work with these pedals? Thanks…
Stephane Amberg says
Leatt 5.0 clipless shoes work well too. The cleat box is deep so it takes 3-4 shims to get the magent to stick flat but the shoes are super comfortable with stiff soles and offers good toe protection. I recommend.
