Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I am 63, live in NW Arkansas, and love riding! I’m fortunate to still be able to ride as hard and fast as I like…and I like to go fast. I’ve got an awesome wife who also loves to ride. I ride basically every day that I am home and built out a van to take my bikes (and my wife) when I am on the road.
My favorite bike, for sure, is my Devinci E-Troy, and I also love the Troy and my old Rocky Mountain Solo for gravel.
How did you get into mountain biking?
My first true mountain bike was really more for training purposes back when I was racing motorcycles off road (I’m an old Desert Racer). I had a road bike that I would do extended sprints on and a “Rock Hopper” that I rode in the mountains. I’d climb for an hour and a half and then descend. That was the routine. My youngest son, Tyler, is the one who really got me into mountain biking long after the racing days. We were still in CA, got a couple of bikes, and started hitting the San Gabriel Mountains.
Life took us to Texas, which has different terrain, but that’s where we really went all in on biking. We took frequent trips to NWA, CO, and hit the bike parks Angel Fire, Crested Butte, etc.
What is your primary riding style?
Enduro ⎯ I basically ride every trail that way.
If you could only ride one trail for the rest of your life, which one would it be?
That’s a really tough one, especially living here in NWA. There are so many trails and my favorite rides consist of linking multiple trails together…the one that leaves me (almost) exhausted and leads back home.
What’s your go to trail snack? (asking for a friend)
Raw, unfiltered honey
Music, podcast, or the sweet sound of nature while riding?
Nature, for sure, and the tires, freehub, and wind.
What’s one of your funniest experiences on the trail?
Riding with a GoPro, going over the bars, cartwheeling off the trail, and disappearing into the brush…camera rolling, swearing at myself and the bike under my breath while stuck, and crawling out. And then my wife nearly peeing her pants laughing when I played back the footage.
Do you participate in other sports or activities?
Just started paddle boarding this past summer. I also work out regularly and am a foodie!
Is there something specific you’d like to share about your REMtech Pedals?
The REMtech pedals absolutely improve my riding experience. They allow me to be connected but still be able to adjust the placement of my foot on the pedal and have all the goodness and freedom of an awesome flat pedal. I’ve been on these a long time. I was fortunate to be able to ride some early prototypes, and they have been a game changer from day one! I have them dialed in and run them on all my bikes!
