Stoked to be riding with you! This article goes over how to install your REMtech Pedals and REMplates. There are written instructions with photo and video visuals to get you dialed in.
Tools & Supplies Needed:
- 8 mm Hex Wrench
- 4mm Hex or T-25 Torx Wrench
- Grease
- REMplates (shims, bolts, and washers)
Installing Your REMtech Pedals
Step 1:
Grab your grease and pedals. Remove the right pedal from the box and apply a little grease to the spindle threads before installing.
Pro tip: Keep the pedal sleeve on until fully installed.
Step 2:
Hand guide the threads into the crank arm on the drive side. Make sure you have a straight connection to prevent stripping the threads before tightening.
Step 3:
Grab your 8mm hex and insert it on the spindle end. Tighten clockwise until secure.
- R: Right pedal, tighten clockwise.
- L: Left pedal, tighten counterclockwise.
Step 4:
Remove the sleeve from the pedal and magnet covers, then repeat steps 1-4 for the left pedal.
Installing Your REMplates
Step 5:
Grab your REMplate OGs or Pros, shoes, and 4mm hex or T-25 Torx wrench.
- V1 REMplate OGs: Use T-25 Torx to install plates.
- V2 REMplate OGs: Install plates with 4mm hex.
- REMplate Pros: Install plates with 4mm hex.
Step 6:
Place your shims (1), if needed*, in the cleat box. Lay REMplate (2) over the shim and make sure you are lined up with the two bolt threads. Then place the two-bolt washer (3) in the insert in the middle of the REMplate.
*Not all shoes require shims. Shim requirements vary depending on which shoes you run. You want your REMplate OGs or Pros to sit approximately 1mm below the shoe sole surface. Place roughly 1 shim if V1 or 1-2 shims if V2 to accomplish this setup if your REMplate sits more than 1mm below the sole surface. If you have a deep cleat box, such as the Fox Unions, and not enough shims to accomplish the recommended setup, you can get more here.
Step 7:
Grab 2 of your bolts and start to hand thread (4) them. Finish tightening them to about 6+ Nm with your 4mm hex or T-25 Torx wrench (5). Repeat on your other shoe.
Pro tip: REMtech Pedals crave to be ridden like a flat pedal. We recommend that you place your REMplate down towards the heel and towards the outer edge of the shoe. If installing REMplate Pros, there will be minimal side to side movement due to the width of the plate. Like the OG, you want your REMplate Pro to sit towards the heel.
Step 8:
Grip it and rip it!
When to Service Pedals:
Recommended servicing when pedals are not smoothly spinning or are making noises.
