I tried learning how to use SPD clipless — I really did — but it was like learning how to ride a bike all over again. I kept falling over at the dumbest times, just because I couldn’t unclip in the split second before crashing. Worse, my confidence was destroyed when I found myself not daring to take a chance making it over features that I conquered just a few months earlier with flats.
I tried these REMtechs as a last resort before going back to flats and these have been a HUGE game changer for me. First off, getting “clipped in” (no idea what we should call it, with these) is effortless. I know experienced clipless riders that still miss getting clipped in, even on the second and third attempts. With REMtechs, all you have to do is get your foot close and let the magnets draw your foot in. If you hear a “click”, then you know you’re good.
However, “unclipping” is where these REMtechs really prove their value. I really can lift my whole bike with these pedals so I was really afraid that I’d have trouble getting unclipped when I needed to, but this turns out to not be a problem at all. It takes just slightly more push to slide your foot off the pedal than what you’d need with flats. That’s all. The extra little bit of effort is hardly noticeable.
So, no more bashed and cut up shins from bouncing off of flats and no more falling over in the parking lot with clipless. These REMtechs have been such a game changer for me that I’ve got them on both my bikes.
Oh, and added bonus — you don’t have to worry about pebbles, dirt, and mud clogging up the shoe plates like you do with clipless pedals since there aren’t any places for anything to get trapped. These are just flat medal plates.
